כ"ז אדר א' ה' אלפים תשע"א
Following the Queensland floods in early January I wrote to friends and organisations in Australia and overseas telling them of our plight and asking for help by contributing to the Queensland Jewish Community Services Inc.- Flood Appeal.
Kol HaKavod, I was overwhelmed by the response and I want to say a big thank you to you all.
Many of you not only responded personally but also forwarded on my email to your friends and organisations you’re associated with. Some organisations initiated fundraising; some posted the email on their websites. I can’t express how grateful I was with the response.
Brisbane and South East Queensland had over 50 Jewish homes and businesses affected. Unfortunately a number were affected in a major way with significant flood water inundation to their property causing massive losses of furniture and personal belongings and destruction of property. Others were affected in a minor way such as lengthy periods of power outages and being isolated. Albeit some were fortunately covered by insurance others were not or the water penetration clauses in their policies didn’t cover them for their particular claim. People now face the huge rebuilding phase.
Claims for assistance are being assessed and we hope and pray that the lives of those affected will return to normality in the very near future. The monies raised through your generosity will help those in most need.
I personally thank you once again.
Although Queensland losses were significant, we also have to remember that other States were affected as well.
Our thoughts and prayers go to all those who experienced hardship including those affected by the devastating earthquakes in Christchurch New Zealand.
For those of you who forwarded my earlier email on could you please pass this ‘thank you’ on as well.
Best wishes and thanks again
