ה' תשרי ה' אלפים תשס"ח
I would like to raise the issue of Tefilos for the lack of rain.
While we did get some rain earlier on we appear to be facing a very serious situation if we don't get decent rain over the next few months.
I would therefore like to suggest that the community have special prayers for rain to be said in our Shules on Yom Kippur and over the next few weeks.
The attached prayer for rain1 was composed by Rabbi Yaakov Baal Haturim.
1IN A TIME OF DEPRAVATION OF RAINS
Tur Orach Chayim (Translation: Rabbi Philip Heilbrunn)
And answer us O Creator of the Universe with Your attribute of Mercy, He who desires Israel to proclaim His Greatness and the Glory of His Majesty; hear our prayer to give dew and rain for blessing on the face of the earth.
And satisfy the entire world from Your Goodness, and fill our hands with your blessings, and from the rich gift of Your Hands.
O guard and save this year from every evil thing and from every kind of devastation and from every kind of suffering, and create for it hope and a culmination of peace.
Have compassion and mercy on us and all its produce and fruits, and bless it with desirable rains, blessing, and bounty, and life, and satiety, and of peace as in the good years.
And remove from us plague, and the sword, and famine and dangerous beasts, and captivity, and plunder, and evil temptation, and severe sickness, and dreadful and harsh disasters; and decree for us decrees of goodness from before You; and may Your mercy overcome Your strictness and treat Your children with the attribute of Mercy.
And receive our prayers in Mercy and favour, for You hearken to the Prayer of every mouth.
