ShareGift Australia

Share Gift Australia

I became aware of ShareGift because I had an unmarketable parcel of shares in the NAB. The NAB advised me that I could "sell" the parcel through ShareGift. I would get a tax deduction for the proceeds of sale which will be donated to ShareGift. I would still have to pay capital gains tax on any gain that I make as a result of disposing of the shares in this way.

I did not have to pay any brokerage on the "sale".

I was given the option to nominate a charity to whom ShareGift may make a gift. I chose the Melbourne Jewish Charity Fund. GoldmanSachs JB Were, who are involved with ShareGift, arranged for a representative of the MJCF to attend the official launch of ShareGift at the head office of the NAB.

At the launch the MJCF was given a cheque for $500.

This is a wonderful way of giving Tzedokeh.

Members of the Community who are interested should speak to their Brokers and Financial Advisors. Various worthwhile causes, including Jewish ones, can be nominated to ShareGift.
