Our kidnapped Israeli Soldiers - Senator Troeth speaks out

ה' תשרי ה' אלפים תשס"ח

Some weeks ago a delegation of COSV Directors met with Senator Judith Troeth (Lib Vic). Among other matters discussed was the issue of the kidnapped soldiers: Eldad Regev and Ehud Goldwasser by Hezbullah in northern Israel near the Lebanese border; and Gilad Shalit by Hamas in Gaza.

The delegation briefed Senator Troeth about the issue, and expressed its concern about the uncertainty of the families of the soldiers.

Senator Troeth has now raised the issue in the Parliament last Wendesday evening - in the very first half hour of the Jewish New Year. Click for a Hansard excerpt of the Senate proceedings that evening. We urge you of the importance of this issue: Let's remember the soldiers in our tefillot, and also I would urge our readers to send an email to the Senator at senator.troeth@aph.gov.au

On behalf of Burwood Hebrew congregation I would like to thank the Senator for raising this heart breaking issue of the captured Israeli soldiers. If Australia is able to use its influence with Hamas/Hezbollah to enable their release should be welcomed by all of us who desire peace in the Middle East.
