You can help the People of Haiti

ג' שבט ה' אלפים תש"ע

The following is a quote that I have received today from the American OU, the roof body of American Orthodoxy:

“It is difficult to comprehend the enormity of the devastation in Haiti. Jews are described by the Talmud as "rachmanim b'nei rachmanim," a particularly compassionate people who are sensitive to the suffering of all and we cannot sit by and ignore this terrible drama of human suffering and misery.

We echo the words of the Psalmist who said "imo anochi b'tzarah" (Psalm 91), when we call upon members of our community to open their hearts and join us in extending a helping hand.”

Regarding this disaster, the Victorian Jewish community has already opened their hearts, minds and pockets.

The Jewish Community Council, Magen David Adom, Jewish Aid Australia and other organisations have commenced collecting funds to assist Haiti with the recovery process.

We, at the COSV are concerned to ensure that as the Orthodox Jewish Community, we take the appropriate steps to show our concern and compassion in the face of this catastrophe.

We urge that you donate generously whether directly or through your shules as a communal demonstration of "rachmanim b'nei rachmanim".

To donate through Magen David Adom please contact them on 9272 5633,  306 Hawthorn Rd Caulfield South.

Donations to Jewish Aid Australia's Haiti Appeal will be sent to CARE Australia, (a non religious, non political Australian charity conducting large scale relief and rescue operations).

Payment can be made by credit card and/or directly by donation to their Bendigo Bank Account by BSB 633000, Account No 123798688. Donations to Jewish Aid are tax deductible. Please allow one month for your receipt to arrive).
