בס׳ד
א' כסלו ה' אלפים תשע"א
Over 160 people attended the International Global Day of Jewish Learning held across Melbourne on Sunday 7th November, 2010 to coincide with the completion of the translation of the Talmud (Gemorrah) by Rabbi Adin Steinsaltz.
Sessions were held at Blake Street Hebrew Congregation, South Caulfield Hebrew Congregation, Melbourne Hebrew Congregation, Beth Aharon and Mount Scopus College as also at Mizrachi.
This amazing venture has taken Rabbi Steinsaltz over 45 years to complete at the rate of one volume per year. In recognition of this outstanding achievement, 48 countries on 6 continents concurrently held over 600 world wide events.
Rabbi Steinsaltz himself found this to be "truly extraordinary". He commented on the outstanding commitment undertaken by communities such as ours for some of whom "this is a first event of this nature, while for others it is an enhancement on to existing current programs. But for all of us, this day inspires learning and the Unity of the Jewish people".
